Barry Burrell is a young and talented professional rider, with the commitment and determination to succeed in the highly competitive world of motorcycle racing.
Barry was one of only eight riders in the UK to be selected by the ACU Road Racing Academy in 2002. He was the first to be recruited from the North East in the two years that the Academy had been running. After winning the BEMSEE B.M.C.R.C. Nationwide Production 125 Cup Barry secured second place in the MRO Superteen Challenge in 2002.
Following his success in such a short period of time on the Aprilla, Barry was offered a ride for Team Great Britain in the BMW Motorrad Boxer Cup for the 2003 season. Barry impressively adapted to the unique riding style required for racing the big-bore BMW Boxer twins. Barry’s best result was a fifth place finish at Le Mans in France while finally securing eleventh position in the championship overall.
The final season for the BMW Boxer Cup series in 2004 saw Barry finishing 11th overall in the championship standings and finishing 3rd in the rankings of the Under 21 Challenge.
MS Racing recognised Barry’s potential after following his progress through the Boxer Cup, and contracted him to ride the CBR600 in the European Superstock class during 2005. This season was a steep learning curve for Barry, adapting to the bike and the high level of competition, Barry finished a respectable top 15 runner.
Taking on the challenge of a second year with MS Racing in the European Superstock 600 series in 2006, Barry pulled in some impressive results. The team saw an outstanding fourth place at Magny Cours, France and a home result of seventh at Silverstone. The end of the season saw an overall finish of thirteenth, placing Barry as one of the top British riders in the series.
Stepping onto the all powerful Honda CBR1000RR in 2007, Barry secured a place with MS Racing in the Superstock FIM Cup 1000. Another year of adaptation saw an impressive home result at Brands Hatch.
The 2008 season secured another ride in the Superstock FIM Cup 1000 with MS Racing aboard the Honda CBR1000RR. An amazing season opener at the second round in Assen, Holland saw Barry fighting for third place on the podium. An equally stunning home performance at Brands Hatch secured a seventh position in front of 100,000 spectators. The end of the season saw Barry finish a respectable twelth in the Superstock FIM Cup 1000.
